Help us to expand our intercessory efforts for Israel

Pray for the peace of Israel" is

"Sha'alu shalom Yisrael" (שַׁאֲלוּ שְׁלוֹם יִשְׂרָאֵל) in he Hebrew.

The phrase "he who blesses Israel" is a reference to a biblical promise found in both Genesis and Numbers, which states that God will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel. In Genesis 12:3, God makes this promise to Abraham, and it is passed down through his descendants, including Jacob, who was renamed Israel. In Numbers 24:9, this same promise is reiterated through the prophet Balaam when he is hired to curse Israel but instead blesses them.

  • Genesis 12:3:

God's promise to Abraham says, "I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you". This promise is extended to the nation of Israel that would be descended from Abraham.

  • Numbers 24:9:

The prophet Balaam was hired by King Balak to curse Israel. However, God prevented him from doing so and instead, under divine inspiration, Balaam declared, "Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee".

  • Biblical interpretation:

Many see this as a principle that still applies today, where God's blessing is promised to those who support and pray for Israel, and a curse is promised to those who harm or oppose it.
